OLOGY: Hi Michael. How are you?

Michael: I’m doing great, thanks!

Great. Now I do want to talk about the last episode because it was kind of big for Navid and Silver. She found out about the stolen cars and broke up with him. What’s going through Navid’s head right now?

Yeah, you know, it’s stupid short-term but really smart long-term. I think he has plans. He knows right now that he’s in a sticky situation with his uncle because he’s pretty much being blackmailed. So, he’s kind of rolling with the punches until he figures out what to do, and along that way, I think he’s kind of forced to make irrational decisions. One of which is firing Silver and telling her he has no other choice but to work with his uncle. I just think he’s really taking one step at a time, but meanwhile he’s digging himself a hole. But he’s a smart kid.

Q: Navid Shirazi, the character you play on the hit CW show 90210, comes from a very privileged background and his clothing (and his Ferrari!) reflects this. How is your personal style different/similar?

A: My personal style is much different. I tend to dress much more casual and relaxed. Navid was and is much more preppy and clean cut.

Q: It’s always such a treat to see what the students are going to wear on 90210. Do you get to work with the wardrobe department when it comes to Navid’s look?

A: Yes. Our main designer is Kime Buzzeli. She’s always looking out for Navid’s wardrobe. They tend to go a bit overboard with Navid. I looked at a pair of shorts they gave me season two, and the price tag read $500. I would never spend that kind of money on a pair of shorts. But they have expensive taste for Navid. I have to give it up to them, they do a great job though. When you want to take your wardrobe home, you know the stylist is doing a good job.

Ology: Hi Michael! The last time I spoke to you Navid and Silver were on the rocks, but now she’s sleeping with his best friend! What the hell happened? (laughs)

Michael Steger: Haha. There’s obviously a connection that Silver has with Liam. He’s been going to all her doctors appointments and everything. He’s been there for her as a friend while I’ve been off at Princeton. So they’ve slipped up and they’ve had an affair, but at the same time, Navid and Silver were broken up. As soon as Navid comes back, he immediately finds out about her experience with the doctors and of course he’s still not over Silver. This next episode [tonight], he ends up finding out that one of his best friends went behind his back without telling him and is sleeping with Silver. I think you’ll have to see what happens when Navid finds out. It’s pretty intense.

Do you think Liam was being a bad friend to Navid by not being honest about it?

Oh definitely, anytime anybody keeps something that huge a secret there’s something wrong and friends just don’t do that to each other. So, yeah, he’s definitely crossed a huge boundary.

Is he going to be more mad with him or her?

More with him.

Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine): Michael, it’s a new season of 90210 and back to Mondays.

Michael Steger: Yes. Mondays at 8:00. It has been busy.

Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine): What is going on with your character this season?

Michael Steger: Well, Navid has finally found out that Silver doesn’t want to have a kid with him. He and Silver are pretty much over at this point. The season progresses, and you see he and Liam going into business together. They take the Offshore, which burned down in the season premiere, and redo it to go into business and start these Pop Ups.

I think in the next episode, you’re going to see the first Pop Up, and the first time he and Liam create something together. Liam is the owner of the building, but they do go into business together, so you see the business side of Navid.

Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine): I read that things don’t go so well for Navid, and he goes into a bit of a depression.

Michael Steger: Well, yeah. There is a bit of a downward spiral because he is trying to catch Silver’s eye, and he is passively aggressively trying to rectify the situation with Silver, but it’s not working out. He gets further and further into this new pattern that doesn’t really fit him well. He just gets in trouble.
